1.As we did a horror film opening sequence we had to come up with a suitable name for our film. In the first place we had no idea what it could be, but after researching other horror movies we decided to call it ‘Revenge’. It suits the storyline and tells the audience what the films about straight away. It also makes the audience assume that it will be a bloody film and that people might die in a horrible way, which is exactly what we want to make them think while watching our opening sequence.
2.We chose two different locations for our opening sequence in order to show a good contrast. We chose our college and the area around it to show that the day when the whole action is taking place was meant to be a casual Friday night. This makes the audience think that there is no threat at all. We tried to achieve the misleading effect by doing this, as the next bit of our opening sequence is a complete contrast. The second half of our opening sequence has been filmed in Halfords warehouse. We chose this building because we needed a dark spooky spot to film our second bit and we could get in there easily because one of the people in our group works there. We chose a dark and empty place such as the warehouse in order to represent danger, helplessness as well as evoke fear and mystery in the audience.
6.Our characters were dressed casually for a party. Just like casual teenagers would be dressed. In the bit when we wake up kidnapped their costumes are a bit messed up to show that last night got messy and that they struggled with the person that kidnapped them e.g. Romans t-shirt is covered with blood from where his throat was slit.
7.As shown above we used a number of different shot types while filming our project. We did close ups and extreme close ups when introducing our characters, and then establishing and long shots when the characters wake up in the warehouse. We also used some sound effects e.g. the coin being dropped on the floor when me and molly wake up was a sound effect pasted in using imovie. We also have some casual music while getting ready, then complete silence when ’12 hours later’ title comes on and then we used some intense music to try and evoke fear and mystery in the audience. We have also used quite a lot of slow motion to increase tension and make the audience aware that there might be something bad going on quite soon. Then in the bit in the warehouse we used slow motion in the bit when I and molly found Roman dead. We used this to link that to the previous scene when we slow motioned the bit when Roman was doing his hair.
5.We chose to do titles that didn’t really suit our genre in order to gain the misleading effect in the audience. The names written in the mirror or on the rizla don’t signify any danger or threat, so the audience wouldn’t think that the next thing they see is going to be so bloody. The only thing in the titles that could suggest the filmy being a horror is the red colour font when the title comes on.
3.Our story is about a group of three friends that belonged to the ‘cool crew’ in the college and bullied one of the teenagers in college to the point when he committed suicide and told his parents who they were. After this his dad seeks revenge and decides to kill everyone in the group. The first person who dies is Roman. You can see the father through the hole in the wall while he’s walking away. After the opening sequence the story develops further and another person dies. The only survivor in the group in the end is Molly.
6.We decided to do a horror. The first bit of the film doesn’t seem like a horror at all, but that’s how a lot of horrors are filmed like. They’re really casual at the very beginning and they then develop really and often become either scary or bloody. Our horror is one of the bloody ones.
8.The characters are introduced while getting ready for the party. Roman is doing his hair which signifies his character is one of these arrogant boys who are really up themselves. Molly puts excessive make-up on which show that her character is one of those girls who get off with loads of boys at parties. I’m smoking a cigarette to make my character look like a total bully. The character names are written on things that represent them. Apart from Molly. My names written on a rizla, Romans is written in the mirror and Molly’s name is written on her back.
4.We used special fake blood and make up to make our characters being dead look as realistic as possible. Roman had several cuts o his throat and face with blood going down from them onto his t-shirt as well as the black eye. Molly had a cut lip and a black eye. U had a black eye and a cut on the cheek. We also used I movie to paste in some sound effects to make the whole thing look much better and more intense.
