Preliminary task

1.An overview
We have been asked to prepare our preliminary task which included match-on-action, 180 degree rule and variety of different shots such as long shot, or over the shoulder shot. We first have drawn the story board to show each shot. The reason for this was to plan out what’s going to happen in the film and to plan what types of shots we were going to use during the task. This just made our job much easier and much more organised. We also had to chose the venue. We decided to use the sixth form common room and balcony. The character was to walk into a building, walk up the stairs, sit opposite another character and have a short conversation with him.

2. Filming
My role was to sit on the balcony of the sixth form centre and wait for Roman to come over and ask me for some money.  We chose the sixth form centre for our task because there were people in it so it actually natural. Our first shot was Roman walking towards the sixth form centre. We used the long shot to show this. Then, we used match on action with the close up on his hand and the door handle when he walked into the building. Charlotte filmed the same thing again from the inside to match the previous shot. We then filmed him as he walked up the stairs with an extreme close up on his feet, and a middle shot on his legs; he would then throw his bag on the floor, walk through the door onto the balcony, sit opposite me at the table and have a conversation with me. We used over the shoulder shot and 180 degree rule to make the conversation look more interesting.  While I and Roman were acting in the film, Charlotte would film it and Molly would edit it.

3. Editing
I think our final piece was quite good because we had a range of different shots and the whole thing looked quite natural. I think the only thing that could be improved was the bit when Roman threw the bag on the floor in the common room. We could use a worm eye shot there to see the bag actually falling on the floor. I also think we had a bit too much of the over shoulder shots during the conversation. We should of used a bigger range of them then. I think our group worked quite well as everyone did their job and the whole project went quite smoothly. By now I got quite good with the camera and Imovie and I can use them quite well.  We used a few transitions to make the whole thing look better and we also used some sound effects such as the chatter in the background of the common room.
